The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
