Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for questions to be asked about his position after another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
The manager highlighted familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase such as this with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
