Music Legend Barry Manilow to Undergo Surgery for Cancer in His Lung.

Barry Manilow announced that he was diagnosed with a cancerous growth in his lung and will undergo a surgical procedure.

Early-Stage Diagnosis

The legendary 82-year-old artist, famous for his series of beloved anthems from "Mandy" has made him one of pop music’s most beloved showmen, will have surgery to take out a section of lung tissue in an effort to combat the illness, which is detected early.

ā€œAs many of you know, I recently suffered from six weeks of a bronchial infection followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

ā€œEven though I was past the infection and returned to the spotlight for my residency, my excellent physician requested an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK.

ā€œThe MRI discovered a tumor on my left side that needs to be removed. It’s incredible chance (and a great doctor) that it was caught so early.ā€

Concert Delays

He has rescheduled a number of planned shows, but suggested he would be back on stage by mid-February for his enduring engagement in Las Vegas.

He added: ā€œThe physicians do not believe it has metastasized and I’m having examinations to confirm their diagnosis. So, that’s it. No chemotherapy. No radiation. Just rest and recuperation and classic TV.

ā€œI’m looking forward to until I return to my home away from home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts.ā€

Professional and Personal Journey

Manilow is currently in the 16th year of a concert series at the Westgate Las Vegas. The singer has enjoyed a career spanning many years in the limelight and publicly identified as gay in 2017, after marrying his longtime partner and manager in secret in 2014.

The pair were in a clandestine romance for over 35 years. Last year, Manilow spoke about how important his husband had been to him during his rise to peak fame in the 1970s.

ā€œAs my career exploded, it was just crazy. And, you know, coming home to an vacant room, you can get into a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re alone evening after evening,ā€ he said.

ā€œBut I met Garry right around when it was blowing up. And I didn’t have to go back to those isolated suites. I had a person to be vulnerable with or to enjoy success with.

ā€œI desire that newcomers today don’t have to go back to those hotel rooms by themselves, because you can make poor choices. I never did. But it was very solitary until I met Garry. And then it was fun.ā€
