Multiple Affected as Rough Air Hits Delta Flight Landing at Sydney, Australia

Several people have been injured after a Delta Airlines jet traveling from LA to Sydney, Australia encountered turbulence Friday morning.

Delta Flight 41 "encountered brief turbulence" as it touched down at the Sydney airport, an airline spokesperson informed. Four flight attendants required medical attention.

Emergency medical services said they treated a total of five people, and transferred three of them to the hospital with relatively minor issues that comprised pain in the back and head pain. The patients' ages ranged from their 30s up to the 70s.

It is the newest example of aircraft experiencing turbulence, with experts indicating that shifting climate patterns is a significant contributor.

On board were nearly 250 travelers and a crew of 15 on the aircraft, the representative added, clarifying that the plane touched down "safely and normally" at the airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on Friday.

Paramedics indicated they got a call just three minutes before the plane landed, and response teams were ready and waiting at the airport.

Why plane turbulence is becoming more frequent - and potentially more dangerous.
