Towards the end of September, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company unveiled a partnered giveaway with GameStop. Until October 15, Glittering editions of the legendary mascots from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are being given away at physical GameStop stores in the US and at EB Games outlets in Australia and New Zealand. Participating local stores in additional nations such as Japan and France were also included in the campaign.
Initial Problems and Code Shortages
However, the promotion faced difficulties from the beginning—Pokémon fans stated that their local stores had run out of codes in the period before the giveaway. Now, midway into the giveaway timeframe, GameStop has restocked the codes, but it's likely your nearest outlet has depleted its stock again.
Because of high demand, the initial batch of complimentary Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon codes were snapped up rapidly.
On Saturday, October 4, GameStop declared a replenishment of codes via social media. The company's statement noted that they had worked with The Pokémon Company to provide additional codes, but there's a catch. "We have received from Pokémon a restricted quantity of codes, around 50 per location."
Reselling and Exploitation Issues
Initially, stores were given fifty codes, though they were rapidly depleted. Despite the promotion limiting codes to a single code per individual, some eBay listings appeared with several codes available. That's remained true for the second batch of codes. One of the top replies on social media commented, "These codes right?" accompanied by screenshots of online sales for the codes, with at least one having several codes on offer.
Varied Outcomes for Fans
Some players managed to obtain codes during the weekend from their local stores, while some had no such luck. "Hoping for a third opportunity. I contacted my local GameStop. They have no codes left (once more)," a fan commented, before other players came forward and gave them spare codes for Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon.
Unanswered Questions
Why the Shiny box legendaries were not obtainable via a Tera Raid battle or given away online via Mystery Gift is still unclear. At present, you'll have to head to your local store and hope they still have codes left if you want a Shiny Koraidon or Shiny Miraidon.
