Zelenskyy Warns Country's Survival Relies on Partners

Kyiv's leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a recent discussion that Ukraine's existence depended on obtaining additional financial aid from allies.

European Authorities Advocates €140 Billion Reparations Loan

The EU executive still hopes to persuade participating countries – including Belgium, which continues to bloc the proposal due to legal fears – to move ahead on a €140 billion financial compensation based on Moscow's immobilized funds.

Commission president Ursula von der Leyen insisted this morning that this represents “the most effective way to sustain Ukraine’s defence and its economy.”

Decision Postponed Until December Meeting

A final decision on the matter has been postponed till the European Council meeting in December, with the funding needed early next year.

Discussions Occur Amid Corruption Scandal in Ukraine

But the talks are happening during a tricky time for Kyiv, as Zelenskyy had to move to contain growing public outrage in the country over a corruption scandal in the energy sector, firing several officials who are accused of involvement in a extensive bribery scheme.

Danish economic affairs minister Stephanie Lose was questioned on her response to the allegations, and affirmed that there was determination to continue supporting Ukraine.

“Of course, Ukraine will have to persistently focus with improvements, strengthening every sector of the nation [and] that also applies to anti-corruption … but it is clear that Europe stands firmly with Ukraine,” she stated.
