Brian Eno Urges Backing to Get Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign aims to deliver assistance to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It has a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of performers appearing on Lullaby includes a range of prominent voices from the scene. All took part in the September show, which successfully generated a significant sum for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of producers and composers. The track showcases a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the campaign have stated that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These donations will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for whatever we can get. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was noted for its profound destruction, with a vast majority of buildings said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a few million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is above all making this cause better known and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The track is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
