Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
